Making an Impact in Our Communities

At Pennington Choices, we are dedicated to creating social value, fulfilling our responsibility to support our communities, and making a meaningful difference. In 2024, we introduced our Employer Supported Volunteering initiative which enables employees to take two working days annually to volunteer for a cause of their choice, plus an additional day for team volunteering activities. Here’s some initiatives our teams across the Uk have took part in:

Supporting Warrington
Foodbank

For many years, we contributed to Warrington Foodbank’s mission to provide emergency food support to those in crisis. December 2023, they delivered over 22,000 meals, and our Christmas donations are helping to ensure no one went without food over the holiday season.

Warrington Christmas
Toy Appeal

For the last two Christmases, our team have spent two weeks each December volunteering with the Warrington Christmas Toy Appeal, helping to provide toys for local children. Working alongside around 150 organisations, including Warrington Wolves, our team help make sure every child in Cheshire receives a gift at Christmas. This is always a rewarding experience, bringing joy to the community and supporting families in need.

Volunteering with Luton Borough Council

Our southern asbestos team recently partnered with Luton Borough Council to volunteer at Actworth Court, a sheltered accommodation with communal gardens. We supported residents in revitalising their vegetable-growing spaces by clearing overgrown flower beds, helping them reclaim and enjoy their garden once again. This initiative is part of our long-term partnership and social value commitment to Luton Borough Council, contributing to projects that benefit local residents.

Work Experience Opportunities for Future Professionals

In 2024, we welcomed two local sixth-form students for a hands-on week of work experience. The students explored various aspects of Pennington Choices, including health and safety, IT and Cyber Security, and even had the opportunity to work in the laboratory, learning about asbestos testing. We take pride in helping shape the next generation of professionals and giving them valuable insights into our industry.

World Book Day
Donations

For World Book Day 2024, the initiative of the year was to donate £1 to provide children across the UK and Ireland with a free £1 brand new ‘World Book Day’ book. Altogether we raised £100 which may enable 100 children to own their very first book and our teams also donated books to a women and children's shelter.

Our journey to Net Zero...

At Pennington Choices, we’re committed to achieving Net Zero by 2040. As part of our Carbon Reduction Plan, we’ve been implementing key environmental management measures and projects to reduce our footprint:

  • Energy - We’re proud to use 100% renewable electricity across all three offices, reducing our electricity emissions by over 85%!
  • Waste - A recycling system has been implemented alongside general waste. This allows us to accurately track waste data by weight and processing type, ensuring responsible disposal.
  • Transport - Last year we added an electric vehicle to our fleet. We’re also promoting low-carbon commuting with our Cycle-to-Work scheme, and we've recently introduced a salary sacrifice scheme to give colleagues discounts on electric cars.

As part of this committee, our team members:
  Help shape strategies and policies

Serve as a voice for colleagues on diversity and inclusion matters

We're excited to see the positive impact the W.I.D.E Committee will have over the coming years in fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered.
